What we can offer?

We have given young people ages 14-18 opportunities to have a hands on approach to subjects within the national curriculum, through the Falconry Beginners course. The Falconry Beginners course is a national certificate, delivered through LANTRA accreditation within South Derbyshire. Our centre is registered to deliver this course using residential assessors; however our staff are able to visit your school if travel expenses are too costly.


What is involved?

Schools in South Derbyshire have contracted with us to deliver this service for the past 3 years. 15-20 year 10 and 11 students have travelled to our centre, 1-2 mornings per week to complete this course and results have been life changing. Once the students completed the course they received a part or a full certification.
The young pupils get up close and personal with the birds, learning how to hold, fly, weigh and feed these fantastic creatures as well as covering the following academic subjects;

Mathematics
• Weighing the birds so they respond to humans

Science
• Aircraft study - Flight research
• Telemetry tracking - Radio signals

Biology
• First aid for the birds
• Body parts and functions

Conservation
• Habitat- loss and management
i.e. Hedge rows, climate, urbanisation

Information technology
• Creation of port-folio

All the subjects are covered with a practical hands-on approach and eventually if the students are confident with their progress and performance they will deliver a demonstration to their class, school or parents.


What are the results?

Apart from gaining an accredited certificate these young people take away with them a lifetime experience.
Many of the teachers that have been involved with this scheme have seen great changes in behavior and attention. If references are required they can be avalible on request, from schools within South-Derbyshire. Some of the students that have completed the course have then returned to the centre to do voluntary work.



Cost

9.30am- 12.30pm

£10.00 per student
£150.00 Group- minimum 15 children
This doesn’t not include certificate and registration fee (£30.00 per student)
This will be reduced if it is a part certification

There will also be a transport fee if the service is being delivered to your school.

School exclusion

We also take school exclusions. The young people would be picked up and returned each day from their home, with a small transport charge. (Price on request)

British Owl Tour

Falconry Experience at Rosliston Forestry Centre are the only company within the East-midlands to tour with The British Owl collection .

Our company offers 5 x 45min demonstrations that can include the following;

 • Assemblies • Classroom tuition• Photography sessions

 All staff members are CRB checked and experienced falconers.
